A house, is not just a building, but a carrier of culture and spirit. This project is a residence designed for the elderly in Xiluo, Taiwan. Since the small town was famous for its historical flourishing of martial arts, the designer is inspired to extend the idea to Tai chi, with the aesthetics of its gentle movements and stillness. The harmony allows residents to savor the stillness of the space, the passing of time, and the spiritual changes among it.
The building almost looks like a man practicing Tai Chi from above, which is an interesting way to interpret the martial art. The sleek and simple exterior and the grey from the faired-face concrete establish an elegant, silent atmosphere; The curves and angles on the side liven the space up.
To build a comfortable living environment, a French window is set in the living room on every floor, allowing the sunlight to enter the space. Extra windows are also set to ensure the ventilation and keep the bath rooms from piling up humidity. What’s more, there are various recreation areas in the building, including Mahjong, which is a traditional gambling game enjoyed by the elderly, and a foot bathing area.
