Located in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China, Solar Ark 3.0 provides a prototype for a future multi-functional zero-carbon house covering economic, ecological and humanistic aspects, which aims to solve problems by the innovations of design aesthetic, construction, and energy technology.
Solar Ark 3.0 adopts ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) as main structural material to build the hyperboloid shell structure. To meet the ecological target, a new design method based on UHPC material performance and structural optimization was developed, contributing to structure material usage amount decreasing by 67% when compares to ordinary concrete frame structures. As for construction, the shell unit could be standardized replicable and extended which is high efficiency for the 20-day-assembly target. In terms of energy efficiency, Solar Ark 3.0 applies win-solar complementary active production technology to maximize production capacity. 80 pieces of 550W east-west arranged PV panel combined with a 5kW wind turbine are used. With an annual net electrical energy of 42,000 kWh, it can save about 45 tons of carbon emission yearly, which will achieve carbon neutrality within 9 years.
