The Sankao coffee table emerges as a study of circular and cylindrical geometries. Through simple changes and alterations in its elemental geometry, and through a conceptual process of compression and stretching three points, the purity of the original geometry is deformed, becoming a more complex and organic object. In this way, structure and utility become part of a whole, giving a unitary solution and understanding the piece as a single living being without losing sight of its geometric genesis. The choice of material had to fulfil a fundamental premise: to be a living material, with its own unique DNA and footprints. This material could not be other than solid wood. The construction and manufacturing process combines technology and craftsmanship in equal parts. Carefully selected solid planks are three-dimensional machined using a 5-axis CNC machining center (numerical control), according to 3D design geometry. Once machined its parts, five in total, each of which are glued and screwed by special screws until the final form is obtained, giving life to the table. Finally the set goes through a careful process of sanding and finishing, consisting of natural oil and bee wax.
