This Café sits in Tainan Art Museum . The space now occupied by this café used to be the office of Tainan Police Station when Taiwan was under the Japanese colonial rule (1895 - 1945), the renovation embodies the idea of reutilisation of heritage.
To preserve the heritage’s feature and style, the interior design of the café does not alter any of the original design of the ceiling, floor, and the wall. The whole space of the café is connected by a curving line and the curved shape seats used in the café also follows overall visual design. This arrangement not only offers flexibility for this commercial space but also overcomes the challenges brought by the building’s singular design.
In terms of the colour selection, the café is featured by old-fashioned velvet green embellished with bronze gold. These colours echo the original design of the police station and merge with the new architecture standing behind, presenting a harmonic fusion of the new and the old. A new renaissance begins here – a low-key luxurious taste hidden behind the classical design. The rebirth of the old building meets the emergence of the modern structure.
