Project developed in the discipline of Design Atelier II, Master course in Product Design, Superior School of Arts and Design (Caldas da Rainha - Portugal)
This project aims to create an object that helps in reversing acute hypoglycemia quickly.
Diabetes mellitus:
- is the result of insufficient production of insulin by the pancreas, or inadequate response of body cells to insulin;
Insulin treatment can cause low blood glucose levels (hypoglycemia).
* From latin, the term mellitus means "that which contains honey; sweet as honey".
Hypoglycemia:
- is a condition in which the blood glucose level decreases to below normal values,
- the most common cause is antidiabetic medicines, however, it can be secondary to errors in feeding people without diabetes;
- the treatment consists of eating foods rich in simple sugars.
Reversal of acute hypoglycemia: Blood sugar can rise to normal in minutes, consuming 10-20 g of carbohydrate. It may be in the form of food or drink if the person is conscious and is able to swallow.This amount of carbohydrate is contained in one tablespoon of honey (about 12 g).
