What is "Just the Right Amount of Wrong"? Virserius Studio set out to answer this question with its 3000-guest room remodel of The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. We wanted to set the hotel apart from the others along the Vegas Strip by introducing concepts of what the slogan may mean to different visitors.
Las Vegas is known for excess. We kept the hotel’s mystique, making sure the design was playfully tasteful, but not ostentatious. Each room serves as a theater stage, with the artwork serving as characters, as well as an invitation to guests to see themselves as players, too. Our firm employed techniques to bring sophistication and edge to the art. For example, there is a photograph of a profile of a woman that was brought to life using powder delicately printed on recycled corrugated craft paper to create dimension. Another piece incorporates blue velvet, a nod to the classic 1980s movie of the same name. It is a soft powder print charcoal drawing of a woman dancing with a ribbon in a full and free expression of movement; guests can follow the lines in an endless loop and imagine themselves similarly. All the pieces were custom made and we used jewel tones to evoke a sense of luxury.
