In Fuzhou, known as Rongcheng (a city of banyan trees), people used to gather under trees and chat, thus forming a nature-based village settlement culture. Focusing on the concept of “gathering”, IF DESIGN and WATERFROM create a social field where people can stay, gather and interact naturally through the architecture.
Since Fuzhou is rich in bamboo, the designers have bamboos split, cut off the arc contour, keep only the bamboo joint texture, re-split and laid in the reception area. It starts from the amber red corner to the right of the entrance gate, and extends to the ceiling, creating a half-open arch line, in a deliberately amplified radian of the bamboo section, above a part of the space in the first floor that is dominated by a horizontal and vertical linear vision. The surface is then covered with a layer of whitened fine bamboo strips, highlighting by light and shadow the subtle pattern changes and the characteristics of bamboo.
