Compared to Western artworks, Chinese ink painting requires tranquil state of mind associated with Zen. The title of the project is called “Dan Mo”. “Mo” is used to express the atmosphere of Zen in Chinese ink painting, and “Dan” expresses less desire. By deploying the rectangular part of the building and the matt-finished concrete grey, the designer depicts the title “Dan Mo” in the ambience for the residents to lead a tranquil retired life with a peaceful mental state.
Apart from water channeling purposes of some external tile cladding, no extra materials for decoration or painting is applied to the rest of the building surfaces inside and out. In fact, each part of this building exists for a purpose, epitomizing material minimization has more positive meaning for environmental issues.
The designer applies the most common building materials and local techniques while putting his effort to condense the construction methods and reduce material use. This approach seeks to import a great significance on different dimensions of the eco-friendly and sustainable issues.
