As for the functionality planning of a one-story apartment, the designer not only need meet the daily needs of residents but also had to value the customs and demands of Feng Shui in the Chinese culture. Due to the 70cm gap between the crossbeams and the ceiling and the 225cm gap between the ceiling and the floor, the designers uses curves and layers of circles to redefine the compartments and make the house wide and high visually via the dome structure to remove discomfort brought by low crossbeams via curves of circles.
The functionalities and compartments are redefined implicitly by curves and layers of the circular ceiling, a stack of curves and layers of the dome structure gives a wide visual effect to the living room and the study. The living room is visually elevated by the heightened TV wall and by hiding thick crossbeams. A storage cabinet in the study is built aside the TV wall by using the depth of the crossbeam, and the space with flexibility and multiplexing according to daily routines is ensured by two semicircles between the entrance and the dining room for a wide and open touch.
