The restaurant is located Shiliupu Pier in Shanghai. Different from building, the old structure and beam are the largest constraint for reconstruction, especially in the lobby on the first floor. When the original ceiling was removed, the lower beam became an obstacle. But we solved the problem – height – by reflective materials and composition treatment. It looks like a long picture as a whole from the horizontal angle.
We are inspired by the verse – “Yoyo, cry deer, and they feed in the field” – from a banquet poem in the Book of Songs, the forefather of ancient Chinese poetry. The verse was often sung by ancient guests at feasts. What it depicts is that elk eat weeds leisurely and cry, sounds like yoyo, happily from time to time. That is a very harmonious and pleasant picture. And this pleasant environment is exactly in Chu Yan Restaurant, where diners talk excitedly. A grand scene with romantic music and joyful feelings arises at the dining room.
Opening the gate, a huge LED which fills the wall completely comes into view, shocking each visitor.
