Interview with Isabel Gómez Tinoco

What made you decide to become a designer?

I feel so lucky to be able to do all the time what I love the most: designing and dreaming about people’s homes and creating places where some of the best family memories are made. Can you tell us more about your design background? Good design begins with an exceptional story. I believe that true luxury is a home that is inspirational, comfortable and complete. I take our clients’ taste, interests and personality – combined with the architecture and surroundings – and elevate the design to its ultimate potential. I am a firm believer in “doing it once and doing it right”, I focus on timeless design, finishes that get better with age and using the best quality possible. I am obsessed with soul, grit and emotion – in any genre.

How do you stay inspired and keep coming up with creative ideas? There is always a source of motivation for creating beauty. Inspiration is everywhere, in nature ( I am a walker), in Architecture, in jewelry, fabrics, and definitely in traveling. After discussing the project with our clients, knowing better their taste and preferences, we create a small imaginary world for them, do some research and start designing the project. Every detail, every finish, every fitting, is considered. Nothing is a last minute choice. Every detail is part of the completed story.

What does good design mean to you? Over the years, I have to admit that I have become obsessed with elegant and thoughtful design. I'm sure a great design starts with an exceptional story, and that's what I like to do most, listen to and tell our customers and the houses where they live stories. Having worked on property for over 10 years I have an intimate knowledge of what adds value and what people are looking for in a quality design. I believe good design is luxurious, yet liveable. I am convinced that Interior design helps to uplift our spirits and to optimize the space effectively, making our client's lifestyle more modern and comfortable. It’s about creating a wonderful experience. We aim to exceed expectations, with acute attention to detail. The focus is neither the size nor the type of project but the opportunity to enrich lives and enhance the environment.

What is the most challenging thing in your profession? We provide a uniquely hands-on approach producing customized environments perfectly tailored to each client’s needs. Clients are assured a highly personal experience with an emphasis on individualized service. The aesthetic relies more on visual and emotional appeal than a particular style or provenance. The most challenging part is to find the right hands to make our design dreams possible but I am so grateful about the team that surrounds me now and feel so confident about delivering the quality and finishings we do.

Please, explain the best project you are most proud of and why. This project was very special to me since the client was so open and sensitive about quality. The amazing proposal has been done with “la crème de la crème” from our European providers. what allowed us to conceive a breathtaking interior I am so proud of.

What is your biggest design career moment? How does this milestone impact your career? The biggest career moment has been having clients who reach out because they are looking for our aesthetics and are ready to trust us. This has allowed me to be able to create an amazing team of 15 people who are as passionate and committed to my clients as I am.

How do you learn and grow your knowledge and design skills? Organized as a multi-disciplinary studio for architectural and interior design, our team of versatile professionals contributes diverse skills, languages, and cultural fluency to each project we touch. We develop environments at any level of customization and we subscribe to the importance of properly proportioned structures and details, partnered always with carefully custom furniture designed by the Studio Itself. Known for interiors that defer to the elements of art, light, and views, we the create spaces that are tailored to both the context of each location and the character of the individual.

What would you say will be future of design? The future of design in my opinion is to provide experiences that go far beyond what our eyes can see, this is what I mean when I say that we are specialized in Emotional luxury, a sensation and comfort that creates visceral joy. What are your career plans for the future? I would love to work on projects in the USA in order to bring European craftsmanship to clients that are looking for something sophisticated and unique. Over the years I have realized the impact I have, as a designer, and through my open and committed customers, on the preservation of European artisanal know-how. We would like to open a couple of offices in different countries in Europe as well in the USA. For the moment we are working on opening our second office in Luxembourg.
